If you have been dabbling in affiliate marketing with little success you are most likely ready for someone to show you the right way to do it. You probably don’t care who shows you how to do it, you are just tired of working so many hours with so little to show for it. All you want to do is make a little money, right? Ok, by the time you finish this article you will know how to make money as an affiliate, but knowing and doing are two different things.
If you want to make money there is going to be a trade off and if you don’t want to trade you won’t make the money. This is what I mean when I say trade off. Your boss offers to let you work an extra 8 hours this Sat, but it is not mandatory. It’s just your luck that this Sat your favorite two basketball teams are playing on T.V. and you have been waiting to watch them play all week. Will you make the money?
See what I mean, you know how to make the money, but you may not choose to make the money. This is just the first step, many people never make it past the first step, are you willing to do a trade off? Is the money that important? If you worked all week you may not need the money so you watch the game. If you have been out of work for 6 months and your electric bill is past due you would probably work on Sat. You have got to want the money more than your competitors, if you don’t they win, you lose.
Most people start affiliate marketing thinking that it will be easier than their job, so they are not willing to put in the hard work and their competition gets the money they could be making. If you think like that don’t read any further, because you will not make any money even after I show you how. You can’t expect to beat your competition if they want the money more than you do. Don’t think being smarter will get you the money, because the people that you are smarter than are going to see the same information I am giving you, so if you knew more than they did before, after this article they will know as much as you do.
Ok, I don’t have to spend a lot of time on this because you have already been selling as an affiliate marketer so you know you need to have a good product and you need to send people to your affiliate page so they will buy the product and you get paid. It sounds simple, but most people are making very little money doing it. It’s not that affiliate marketing doesn’t work, it’s the process you use that is not working. Where is the traffic coming from that you send to the affiliate site?
Are you writing articles and submitting them to directories, using search engine traffic, traffic exchanges, forum posting, PPC, I hope you are using all of them, because they all work. You are probably saying to yourself, “I have tried all that, but it doesn’t work” and you are correct, because the main process is not being used. I know you are doing a lot of hard work, but there are others working harder and they are the ones making the money.
It’s just human nature to want results fast, so it is easier to try and get results fast rather than trying to get results slow even though they both take hard work. Since you are working hard anyway doesn’t it make sense to maybe work just a little harder and get results instead of working for nothing? You can if you have just a little patience and add one more step to what you are doing now.
It works the same no matter how we get the traffic, but let’s use article submissions as an example. We write a good article submit it to Ezine Articles. In the resource box, instead of sending the prospect to the affiliate site we send them to our own page with a sign up form on the page. If they sign up they go on our list and we can offer our affiliate program to them as many times as we want to, as long as they stay on our list.
If all you do is send a prospect to your affiliate page one time you will never make enough sales to pay your light bill each month. How many sites have you been to this week, was it maybe 1000, how many times did you buy a product from any of those sites, was it maybe zero times. You may not have needed the product when you visited the site, you may need it later, but you will probably never go back to the same site to buy it.
Having your own list you let people know what you are selling and when they need your product or when they can afford your product they know where to go to get it, and if you are giving them good information they trust your recommendation. Now the question is will you do the extra step, it’s not easy, you will have to learn how to build a list and then you will have to learn how to keep people on that list. It’s also going to take more time, it will not be instant results. It’s all in your hands now, you are the one that makes the decision, I hope you make the right one.
